The Pentair 524000 IntelliCenter System is a complete pool and spa automation package: the Load Center enclosure, the outdoor touchscreen control panel and the Pool & Spa personality card all ship together, pre-configured and ready to commission. There is no separate personality kit to buy.
⚠️ The IntelliChlor Salt Cell Is Not Included
This unit is salt ready, which means the IntelliChlor transformer and a salt cell blank kit (a spacer that seals the plumbing run until a cell is fitted) are in the box. The salt cell itself is sold separately.
This matters if you are replacing an older system. Three of the five part numbers 524000 supersedes — 523966, 523967 and 523968 — shipped with an IntelliChlor Plus40 cell included. If you are cross-referencing from one of those, budget for the cell separately.
Which IntelliCenter Do I Need?
Pentair consolidated the IntelliCenter line to four system part numbers in 2026. The difference between them is the card and the actuators:
- 524000 (this one): Pool & Spa Card, shared equipment, with 2 Compool valve actuators.
- 524001: the same system with 2 IntelliValve actuators instead. This is the most common mix-up — check which actuators your install calls for.
- 523999: Pool Card — pool only, single body, no spa control and no actuators.
- 524002: Dual Equipment Card — two independently operated bodies with separate equipment, not shared.
"Shared equipment" means one pump, filter and heater serve both the pool and the spa, with valve actuators switching flow between them. If your pool and spa each have their own equipment, you want 524002.
Replaces These Legacy Part Numbers
523686, 523687, 523966, 523967, 523968 — the former i5PS, i8PS and i10PS shared-equipment systems. One part number now covers that whole range, with the relay count as the expansion axis.

Installation Requirements
Pentair's installation guide is explicit: "This product must be installed by a licensed or certified electrician or a qualified service professional in accordance with the current National Electrical Code (NEC) or Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)."
Before ordering, confirm your electrical service can support a single-phase 120/240 VAC feed with a main breaker of up to 150 A. Circuit breakers are not included. Bonding connects equipment within 5 ft of the unit. Installations must conform to all national, state and local codes, and permits may be required by your jurisdiction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to buy a personality kit as well?
No. The Pool & Spa card is included and installed. This is a complete, working system — unlike the bare Common Load Center part numbers (522041 and 522043), which have no personality card.
Is the salt cell included?
No. The IntelliChlor transformer and a cell blank kit are included, which is what "salt ready" means. The cell is a separate purchase. If you are replacing 523966, 523967 or 523968, note that those did include a Plus40 cell.
What is the difference between 524000 and 524001?
Only the valve actuators. 524000 ships with two Compool actuators, 524001 with two IntelliValve actuators. Everything else is the same. Check which your installation calls for before ordering — this is the most common ordering error on this product.
Will this control my pool and spa separately?
It controls a shared-equipment pool and spa — one pump, filter and heater with actuators switching between the two bodies. If your pool and spa have completely separate equipment, you need the Dual Equipment version, 524002.
How many circuits can it run?
Five relays are installed and the system expands to ten. It replaces the former i5PS, i8PS and i10PS systems, so it covers that range depending on how you expand it.
Can I mount it outdoors?
Yes. The enclosure is Type 3R rainproof (IPX3), rated for indoor or outdoor use. Rainproof is not the same as watertight — it is not rated for submersion or direct washdown.
Can I install it myself?
No. This is line-voltage equipment carrying up to a 150 A service, and Pentair requires installation by a licensed or certified electrician or qualified service professional under NEC or CEC.
